Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a 4-year program.

The curriculum for this program focuses on patient-centered nursing which is based on healing and holistic care. This program will prepare students for initial RN licensure and entry into the workforce.

Freshman Nursing Admission

The first step towards nursing admission is indicate “nursing” interest on your Freshman UST application. Including the major of nursing, will allow us to work with you after you after an admissions decision to the university is received.

During your first year at UST, we will guide you to take specific courses and steps to achieve a spot in our nursing cohort!

Freshman students wanting the nursing major, Pre-Nursing students, will work closely with Nursing Admissions to have their request presented to the Nursing Admissions Committee. We have two entry opportunities in fall and spring semesters.

Nursing Cohort Admission Considerations

The Peavy School of Nursing offers admissions through the Nursing Admissions Committee.  The committee reviews all eligible applicants for the fall and spring semesters.

In addition to eligibility requirements, the Nursing Admissions Committee considers a number of other factors, including, but not limited to:

• All grades for Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology,
• Math grades
• Full-time vs. part-time class load
• Patterns of repeats and/or withdraws
• HESI A2 or TEAS scores
• Essay about desire to pursue a nursing career

Eligibility Requirements
Minimum Requirements to apply and to be considered for the School of Nursing:

• 3.0 overall college GPA, based on a 4.0 scale
• 3.0 science GPA (including Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, & Math (College Algebra or Statistics) completed by submission of application)
• Submission of HESI A2 scores of 80% or above:
  • Required Sections: 
    • Math
    • A&P
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Grammar
    • Vocabulary
  • The HESI A2 exam must be scheduled outside of UST. The department ID for UST is 200020.
  • Steps to Register for the HESI Exam.
  • As an alternate to the HESI A2, the TEAS exam may be submitted with a score of 78% or higher in each section.
  • If a student has taken the exam for another school, these scores may accepted for UST as long as all required sections were taken.
• Submission of a well-written, personal statement demonstrating the student's passion for nursing as a career and vocation.

After Admission

Students admitted to the UST Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing will be subject to participation requirements established by healthcare organizations that host student clinical rotations. This includes criminal background checks, CPR certification and specific immunizations. These requirements may also include verification of identity and compliance with federal immigration law. Admitted students will work on these additional requirements at the Nursing Orientation.

Program Timeline

Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program for transfer students, with prerequisites coursework completed, is 3 years.Transfer students can apply with some classes in progress. Pending coursework could prevent an admissions decision.
