The University of St. Thomas’ Licensed Professional Counselor program is designed for students with a master’s degree in counseling or psychology looking to advance their career in mental health counseling. LPC services may include education counseling, career development counseling, marriage counseling, chemical dependency counseling, rehabilitation counseling, diagnostic assessment, and more.

500X330 –LPC School Counselor.jpg Through the School of Education and Human Services, UST offers the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) program.  This program:

  • Is 100% online
  • May be completed in two terms
  • Provides training and development in mental health counseling
  • Includes engaging curriculum taught by practitioners
  • Will prepare students to apply and enhance their skills and knowledge through practicum requirements

Employment opportunities for a Licensed Professional Counselor are growing in a variety of industries, including careers in:

  • School systems
  • Consulting
  • Mental health hospitals
  • Private practice
  • And more

Graduates with a master’s degree in counseling or psychology may apply for the LPC program, which offers a minimum of four additional courses, in which students will then be eligible to take the National Counseling Exam to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Courses include:

  • COUN 5325: Addiction
  • COUN 5375: Psychopathology and Human Behavior
  • COUN 5369: Professional Counseling Issues and Ethics
  • COUN 6335: Community Mental Health Practicum
