As you navigate your career journeys, it can be helpful to talk through various options and utilize assessments. Career assessments are tools designed to help individuals understand how a variety of personal attributes (i.e., values, preferences, motivations, aptitudes, and skills) impact their potential success and satisfaction with different career options and work environments.

The Maria Cruz Salazar Interview Closet is UST's on-campus professional clothing closet located in the Career Services Center (CSC), Crooker Center, Suite 208.

Students can borrow professional clothing for up-to 14 days for career fairs/events, interviews, etc.

How do I create a Handshake account?

Select the ‘Employer’ field at Handshake. You can select your organization from an existing account or create a new account. You will need to register with your organization’s email address and not a personal email address.

How do I post a job, interview, or event?

Select ‘Create a Job’ from your homepage. If you are experiencing difficulties with posting a jobs, you can select the ‘Help” tab at the top of your Handshake screen to contact tech support via chat or contact our office - CSC Email.

How can I send jobs and events information to students?

Handshake is the best way to share your jobs and events with UST students and alumni. You can also email CSC flyers and marketing materials to share via social media.

Do you have resume books?

We can create resume books based on students’ class level, majors, interests, skills, and other search features. To request a resume book, contact CSC.

Policies and Procedures for Employers Recruiting at UST

UST Recruiting Policies and Procedures are designed in support of students, alumni and employers to create a top tier recruiting experience. By recruiting at UST, you are agreeing to abide by these policies and procedures.
Career Services Center (CSC) utilizes Handshake career management platform for all campus recruiting. Jobs, events, and opportunities must be posted through Handshake, which are then reviewed and approved by CSC staff for appropriateness and content, and CSC reserves the right to remove any employer and/or job postings without notice or explanation to the employer.
Positions requiring upfront costs or commission only will not be posted.
Third party recruiters must disclose the company they are representing.
CSC reserves the right to decline or disable an employer account at any time that has negative employee reviews posted online.
Job and internship offers need to be made with reasonable timelines (two weeks or more) to reduce the undue pressure on students and allow employers to hire the best candidates for their organization.
CSC provides services to employers who do not unlawfully discriminate in the selection of candidates on the basis of national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other basis prohibited by applicable law. Employers may encounter international students during the recruiting process. U.S. law and regulations require certain treatment of international students. Screening candidates based on citizenship or national origin is prohibited. Any employer recruiting at UST must agree to abide by this policy, and agree to refrain from questioning students regarding the above protected classifications.
CSC reserves the right to enact consequences for violations of any of these policies and procedures. Violations and their consequences will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Consequences include loss of access to Handshake, loss of support for campus recruiting, and flagging employers on Handshake for violations.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Internships

Internships are typically short term, off campus opportunities, which provide valuable learning experience for students
Types of internships include paid, unpaid, and academic credit
Internships are posted in Handshake
Unpaid internships require employers to sign the UST Unpaid Internship Supplemental Agreement form to ensure internships meet the DOL Standards
Requirements for an internship:
- Position allows students to gain professional work experience that is specific to their major or career path
- Detailed job description that includes specific duties, daily tasks and projects, and provides guidance with a desired outcome
- Provides an assigned direct supervisor and allows the student to get involved with managers, board meetings, committees, etc.
- Understand the mundane and necessary parts of any position (such as making copies, faxing, etc.) while not having those as the main functions of the Internship
- Produce deliverables upon completion of the Internship, such as a paper, presentation, etc.
- No more than twelve (12) percent of the intern’s duties may be spent on tasks such as cold calling

Externships

Externships are 1 – 5 days experience where students can learn more about your organization, industry or position.
Types of externships include job shadowing and site visits
Externships can be hosted in person or virtually

Corporate Projects

The corporate projects are group research projects that culminate in a final deliverable, usually a PowerPoint presentation and executive summary.
Corporate sponsors choose a project topic relevant to their company and on which they would like to have some research done and hear a new perspective from the next generation of business professionals.

Maria Cruz Salazar Interview Closet

Maria Cruz Salazar Interview Closet would not have been possible without our wonderful donors, especially alumni Mari Salazar, who chose to name the closet in honor of her late mother.

The interview closet's purpose is to provide a resource for UST students and alumni when interviewing for a job, attending a professional event, or other career-related occasions that require professional attire. All items in the closet can be checked out for approximately two weeks, and the career center will have the items cleaned upon return. The closet is generously supported by UST alumni, community members, and local organizations.

The Maria Cruz Salazar Interview Closet always accepts professional clothing and accessory donations, including men's and women's suit sets, professional dresses, men's belts, ties, shoes, pant hangers, etc., in all sizes. Accepted items include gently used or new quality professional attire. We especially need suits and suit separate, and when possible, please donate with hangers.
